Hi Everyone, Here's something to think about when you don't have anything better to do.

Q.) What are you going to do for lights when the electrical grid goes down for an extended period of time, and there “IS NO ELECTRICITY” when you flip the wall switch?

A.) Ideally you should have your own generator handy, if at all possible, along with a good supply of fuel that has been treated with a stabilizing agent. If, for whatever reason, you don’t have a generator for electricity you should have several “Hurricane Lamps” or “Kerosene Lamps” handy, along with a good supply of K-1 Kerosene.

At the very least you should have a good supply of “Emergency Candles” along with several large boxes of “Strike Anywhere” kitchen matches on hand. As for myself, I have all three of the above, and I rotate my emergency gasoline supply every couple of months.

[ I had never really paid much attention to just exactly “How Dark” it can get at night when you DON’T HAVE ANY LIGHT AT ALL AT NIGHT until the big “G” blew through here. I mean that fucker didn’t hit my area directly, however, just as soon as that fucker had come ashore over by Morgan City ALL of the electricity went out ALL along the Gulf Coast.

I would run my generator for several hours at night, then turn it off to save fuel. GOD THE NIGHT WAS FUCKING DARK! I couldn’t see my fingers right at the tip of my nose either. That made me think about the passage in the Bible that said “And every man was sitting with his sword upon his thigh” referring to the kings guards that were surrounding him while he slept, and the fact that the night was dark.]

Q.) What are you going to do WHEN the city water supply goes down and there “IS NO WATER” at the spigot in your kitchen… say for like five or six months?

A. ) It has been recommended, by a couple of different GOVERNMENT, and PRIVATE agencies, that, ideally, you should store at least a TWO week supply of DRINKING water.

That translates to at least ONE gallon of water per person in your household PER DAY. Failing that you should get your hands on some sort of “Survival Manual” and learn how to use Bleach, the Sun, or Iodine to purify storm water run off, ditch water, or water from a pond.

[ No promotion here… but you just might want to find at least one of these books and toss it into your emergency gear AFTER YOU’VE READ IT! Q.) What are you going to do WHEN the GROCERY stores and PHARMACIES are closed for a sustained period of time?

A.) It is recommended that you have AT least enough NON-PERISHABLE, PRE-COOKED, food, along with basic OTC medications, and other emergency items, put away to last you and your family for AT LEAST SIX MONTHS… ideally you should have enough non perishables squirreled away to last you for from eighteen to twenty-four months.

I take all of this stuff a lot more seriously than a lot of my friends do, and even though I have a generator for electricity I also have several Hurricane lamps, some K-1, and a gang of candles handy because I know that I  Wouldn’t be able to afford, nor store, enough gasoline to keep that bugger running, for even twelve hours a day, for six months.

I also keep a stash of city water squirreled away in one gallon milk jugs that I’ve cleaned out real good. I don’t normally use city water because I have a water well, however, I stashed city water because it has been chlorinated, and unlike untreated well water no funky shit will grow in it.

I also have a stash of food stuff, like dry beans, rice, powered milk, flour, and oat meal, that I have vacuumed packed so that it will keep without weevils hatching in it. I also invested something like $185.00 in a big pressure cooker\ canner so that I could get some food cooked, and put away to use in case of an extended emergency.x

He…,He…, He… I also keep a loaded fire arm, of some kind, in just about every room in my house too. My favorite is the 12 Ga. Winchester Riot Gun that I bought in the wake of Katrina… so come fuck with me, at my house, during a time of a declared emergency if you wanna Boo.
